The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®), administered by the College Board, allows students to demonstrate college-level knowledge and earn academic credit without taking traditional courses. 

The CLEP German Language exam evaluates proficiency equivalent to two to three semesters of college German, covering listening comprehension, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar.

Upon registration and payment through the College Board, you will receive a Ticket ID number, which is required to start your exam on test day.

CLEP German Language Exam Outline

The CLEP German Language exam is divided into three separately timed sections, with all questions weighted equally.

I. Listening (40%)

Sections I & II

This section measures your ability to understand spoken German.

Part C: Reading Comprehension (24%)

  • Understanding longer texts (about 200 words)

The CLEP German Language exam is administered year-round through the College Board.

To register:
