What is the CLEP English Literature Test?

The College Board administers the College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®), which offers affordable exams that allow students to earn college credit for knowledge they already possess.

The CLEP English Literature exam focuses primarily on British authors and literary works, covering literary periods from the Anglo-Saxon era to modern literature.

If you have gained knowledge through previous coursework, independent study, on-the-job experience, or personal interest, you can take this single exam and potentially receive college credit equivalent to completing a one-semester English Literature course.

By passing the CLEP English Literature exam, you may be able to:

  • Earn three or more college credits
  • Save money compared to paying for a full college semester
  • Graduate on time or even ahead of schedule
  • Add flexibility to your degree program
  • Skip hours of lectures and homework assignments

Before registering, be sure to confirm with your college or university that they accept CLEP English Literature exam scores.

Testimonials

What do our clients say?
prepsaret review 467

I was intimidated by the wide range of literary periods on the CLEP English Literature exam, especially poetry from the Romantic and Victorian eras. The practice test helped me identify weak spots immediately. I passed with confidence and earned my credits!

Abigail T.

prepsaret review 468

The breakdown of literary genres was incredibly helpful. Since poetry makes up such a large portion of the exam, the focused review on meter, imagery, and tone made a huge difference in my score.

Marcus E.

prepsaret review 469

I was nervous about identifying tone, mood, and stylistic patterns in unfamiliar passages. The detailed explanations after each practice question showed me exactly how to approach literary analysis.
