Exam Registration
You can register for the CLEP English Literature exam online through the College Board website. The exam is offered year-round with flexible scheduling options.
On the College Board website, navigate to “My CLEP Account” to:
- Create or manage your account
- Register for exams
- View exam scores
- Request transcripts
During registration:
- Pay the $97 testing fee
- Choose between testing at a center or remotely
- Print your exam ticket if testing in person
Testing Remotely
Before selecting the remote testing option, ensure you meet the technical requirements:
- PC desktop or laptop only (Macs, Chromebooks, and tablets are not supported)
- Windows 10 operating system (Windows 11 not supported)
- Latest version of Google Chrome
- Speaker (headphones are not allowed)
- Camera and microphone
- Reliable internet connection
After scheduling your exam:
- Download the ETS Online Test application from the CLEP portal.
- On test day, download and install the Proctortrack desktop application.
- Complete identity verification using face scan and photo ID.
- Scan your testing room using your camera.
During the exam, no one may enter your testing room.
Test Day
In-Person Testing
Arrive at the testing center approximately 30 minutes early. Bring:
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Printed registration ticket
All personal items must be stored in a locker before entering the testing room.
Remote Testing
Log in to your CLEP account 30 minutes before your exam time. Complete the Proctortrack verification process and launch the ETS Online Test application once approved by your proctor.
How the CLEP English Literature Test is Scored
The exam is scored as follows:
- One point for each correct answer
- No penalty for incorrect answers
- No penalty for skipped questions
Your total correct answers make up your raw score, which is converted to a scaled score ranging from 20 to approximately 80.
- Your unofficial score appears immediately after the exam.
- Your official score report is available the next day in your CLEP account.
Each college sets its own passing score requirement.
