At Prepsaret, we provide free practice tests, detailed study guides, and flashcards to help you build a strong foundation in human resources and pass your exam with confidence.

aPHR® Certification Exam Test Format and Structure

The aPHR exam consists of 90 questions, including 25 unscored items, and candidates are allotted 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the test. These unscored items—referred to as pretest questions—are included to assess the quality and reliability of potential questions for future exam versions.

While the majority of the exam questions are multiple-choice, a portion of the test includes alternative question formats, such as:

  • Multiple-response: Choose two or more correct answers.
  • Fill-in-the-blank: Provide a word or phrase that completes a given sentence.
  • Drag-and-drop: Drag pieces of information to the correct position/order.

All questions on the exam are based on any one of the following cognitive levels:

  • Knowledge/Comprehension: Your ability to recall factual material, including definitions and terms
  • Application/Problem-solving: Your ability to apply familiar principles to solve real-life problems
  • Synthesis/Evaluation: Your ability to combine different elements using critical thinking skills to solve complex problems.
