About the Exam

What Is the GACE?

The Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) is the official state-approved educator certification assessment program required for anyone seeking to teach or work as an educational professional in Georgia's public schools (PreK-12).

The program is overseen by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and has served as Georgia's required certification assessment since September 1, 2006. Effective July 1, 2025, all GACE testing moved from ETS to Evaluation Systems, Pearson (ES). All new registrations are handled at gace.es.pearson.com.

All GACE assessments are aligned with state-approved educator preparation standards, national standards, and Georgia's P-12 curriculum frameworks. The specific exams required depend on your grade level, subject, and intended role. Passing a GACE assessment does not automatically grant certification - candidates must also be recommended by their approved educator preparation program (EPP) and meet all other GaPSC requirements.

Understanding Your GACE Score

GACE scores are reported on a 100-300 scale. Content assessments use a tiered passing standard - both induction and professional levels satisfy Georgia's certification requirements.

  • 1
Scaled scores from 100-300. Passing scores were established by GaPSC with input from Georgia educator committees. All scores are electronically verified before official release.
  • 2
Two passing tiers for content tests. A score of 220 earns Induction-Level certification; 250 meets the Professional-Level standard. Both satisfy Georgia's Special Requirement for content knowledge.
  • 3
Unofficial scores available immediately at the testing center for selected-response-only exams. Official scores post within 7-28 days. You'll receive an email notification when results are ready.
  • 4
30-day mandatory retake window. Must wait 30 days before re-registering. The Ethics exam allows up to 5 attempts per registration with no additional fee.
