Chemistry deals with how different electromagnetic radiation - GED Prep

Question

Chemistry deals with how different electromagnetic radiations interact with atoms and molecules. The interaction is known as spectroscopy. When these radiations hit atoms, electrons are ejected from higher energy levels to lower energy levels, thus producing energy. To determine the association between the wavelength of light and the amount of energy released, a scientist investigated how a hydrogen and helium atom produced lights of different wavelength and energy as the atom’s electrons were ejected and propelled from higher energy levels to lower energy levels. The scientists noted that light of longer wavelength indicated that the atom released less energy.

After recording the wavelength for the hydrogen and helium atoms, he noticed that a violet color was emitted. The wavelength of violet volor was lower for hydrogen compared to that of helium. Therefore, he concluded that hydrogen emits more energy than helium.

Which sentence from the passage supports the researcher's conclusion?

Answers
  1. correct
Explanation

The answer compared the wavelength of light emitted by hydrogen and helium. From the passage, we are told that a higher wavelength implies less energy, and therefore the lower wavelength of hydrogen would imply more energy is emitted.
