How Much Does the GED® Test Cost in Idaho?

The Cost for the In-Person Testing at a Test Center

Currently, the cost for taking the GED test at an official testing center in Idaho is $36 per subject. This means the total cost for the full GED exam (4 subjects) taken at a test center is $144.

Online GED Testing Cost

The cost for taking the GED test online in Idaho is also $36 per subject, totaling $144 for the complete exam. When scheduling your GED test, you will need to pay for the test online using a debit or credit card. This is the preferred method of payment for the GED test in Idaho.

Idaho GED Test Retake Policies

How Long Do I Have to Wait Before Retaking the GED Test if I Don’t Pass?

If you do not pass a subject area test the first time, there is no waiting period in Idaho for in-person testing at a Testing Center. However, after taking a test subject three times, you will have to wait 60 days before retesting. 

This 60-day wait period applies to each additional non-passing subject exam attempt.

For those taking the Online Proctored Exam, you are allowed one retake before a 60-day waiting period. After taking a test subject two times online, you will have to wait 60 days before retesting.

Idaho GED Retake Costs

In-Person Testing at a Testing Center

Starting July 1, 2023, you will receive one discounted retake for every GED test subject you purchase but do not pass. You have 365 days after your full-price test to use this retake. This retake offer (1 full price:1 discount) repeats until you pass the test. 

GED Testing Service waives its $26 testing fee, but additional testing fees may still apply in your state. In Idaho, there is a $10 test center fee for GED test retakes. Note that a limited-time offer of up to 2 discounted retakes for exams taken in test centers is available until June 30, 2024.

Online Proctored Exam

The Online Proctored Exam costs $36 for a retake in Idaho. Discounted retakes are not offered on the Online Proctored Exam.

Idaho GED Transcripts and Diploma

The State of Idaho has partnered with GED Testing Service to handle requests for GED® transcripts and diplomas through Parchment. You can request your GED transcript and diploma on the  Life After GED page.

After Passing the GED® Test

Upon passing the GED® test, you will automatically receive one free electronic diploma and one free electronic transcript. However, you must take additional steps to receive a free printed diploma.

Electronic Diploma and Transcript

Once you pass all GED® test subjects and earn your diploma, download links for your electronic diploma and transcript will be emailed to the address associated with your GED® account.

• These links are available for a limited time, so download your electronic documents promptly.
• Follow the instructions provided in the email. The PDF documents can be forwarded to employers and colleges that accept electronic credentials.
• The documents are verified by GED Testing Service/Parchment using Blue Ribbon Security. The blue ribbon symbol assures the digital credential is valid, authentic, and unaltered.

Printed Diploma

To order your printed diploma, log in to your GED® account at GED.com, go to My Scores, and select Order Duplicates. Choose the Diploma option and then select the Printed Diploma – Free option.

• You will need to specify the recipient and the mailing address for the diploma.
• The free diploma link is a one-time use and will only be available until it is used.
• Follow the ordering instructions carefully.

The Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE) does not handle GED® verifications, and state employees cannot provide GED® attainment verification to potential employers. Non-academic institutions must create an account with Parchment to verify GED® credentials as a third-party vendor.
