Kentucky GED Retake Policies 

If you don’t pass a subject area test on your first attempt, there is no waiting period required before retaking the test in Kentucky. However, after taking a subject test three times, you’ll need to wait 60 days before retesting for the fourth and any subsequent attempts. It’s important to note that there is no limit to the number of times you can test in a year.

For those opting for the online proctored GED exam, you are allowed one retake before a 60-day waiting period is imposed. After taking a subject test twice online, you’ll need to wait 60 days before retesting.

Starting July 1, 2023, you will receive one discounted retake for every GED test subject you purchase but don’t pass. This discounted retake offer is valid for 365 days after your initial full-price test. The GED Testing Service waives its $26 testing fee for retakes, but you’ll need to pay a $10 test center fee in Kentucky.

This “one full price, one discount” offer repeats until you pass the test.

Note: As a limited-time offer, you can receive up to two discounted retakes for exams taken at testing centers, as long as both retakes are completed by June 30, 2024. Fortunately, discounted retakes are not offered for the online proctored exam.

Besides Kentucky, in New Jersey, you will receive one discounted* retake for every GED® test subject you purchase but don’t pass. the following states and territories offer discounts for GED test retakes:

1. Minnesota: Offers discounted testing options for candidates who need to retake the GED exam. Specific details on the discount amount were not provided, but the state is known for its supportive testing initiatives.
2. Maryland: Provides a discounted rate of $45 for first-time testers, which covers all four modules of the GED exam, making it $11.25 per subtest.
3. Washington, D.C.: Offers a discounted rate of $15 for the entire GED test, which breaks down to $3.75 per module.
4. Arkansas: Charges $16 for GED testing, which is $4 per subtest, making it more affordable for retakes.
5. Virginia: Similar to Kentucky, Virginia also offers free testing for first-time testers, with potential discounts for retakes based on enrollment in approved adult education programs.
6. Texas: Recently introduced a voucher program that allows eligible test-takers to take the GED exam at no cost, which may apply to retakes as well.
