The degree does not need to be in education or in any particular subject \u2014 any 4-year degree qualifies. This is a significant distinction from conditional certification (which often requires content-area coursework alignment) and from standard certification (which requires program completion in an approved EPP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The degree does not need to be from a Maine institution. Degrees from any accredited college or university \u2014 including international institutions, subject to credential evaluation \u2014 qualify.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Equivalent Work or Academic Experience<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This provision is one of the most distinctive features of Maine&#8217;s emergency certificate framework.
