Types of Connecticut Teaching Certificates That Require Renewal<\/h2>\n
Connecticut teachers must renew three primary certificate types to maintain valid licensure: the 3-year Initial Educator Certificate, the 8-year Provisional Educator Certificate, and the 10-year Professional Educator Certificate <\/strong>(which requires 90 CEUs). Renewals are processed through the Connecticut Educator Certification System (CECS)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n Validity<\/strong>: 3 years.<\/p>\n Renewal status<\/strong>: Issued to new teachers, this certificate requires renewal or advancement to a provisional certificate after three years. If not advanced, it can sometimes be extended or reissued if specific requirements are met.<\/p>\n Applications for initial certificate renewal can be completed online using the <\/span>Connecticut Educator Certification System (C.E.C.S.)<\/a>\u00a0or with a paper-based <\/span>ED 183 application<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n As of July 1, 2025, Provisional Certificates are no longer being issued or renewed.
