The supercomputer, part of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center, will support breakthroughs in fields ranging from chemistry and physics to genomics. &#8220;It will advance scientific discovery, from chemistry to physics to biology,&#8221; Wright said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dell is providing the computing infrastructure, while <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nvidia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will supply its latest AI chips. Dion Harris of Nvidia emphasized that genomics will be a priority area, noting, \u201cIt was basically just a nod to [Doudna\u2019s] contributions to the field.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jennifer Doudna highlighted the synergy between biology and computing: \u201cWe\u2019re standing at a really interesting moment in biology that really marks the intersection of biology with computing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Technology, Security, and Global Tensions<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised the project\u2019s importance: \u201cThe scientific supercomputer is one of humanity&#8217;s most vital instruments&#8230; It is also a foundation for economic and technology leadership. And with that, national security.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Huang&#8217;s remarks were clouded by controversy surrounding Nvidia\u2019s planned R&amp;D facility in Shanghai. Lawmakers, including Senators Jim Banks and Elizabeth Warren, have raised concerns over potential national security risks.
