Cybersecurity firm Wiz has successfully passed a key regulatory hurdle, with the U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) granting clearance for its acquisition by Alphabet, the parent company of Google.
The update was confirmed by Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport during a Wall Street Journal event on Tuesday.
The $32 billion deal marks Alphabet’s largest-ever purchase, signaling its deepening investment in cybersecurity.
Once finalized, Wiz will become part of Google Cloud, a move expected to significantly strengthen Google’s enterprise security capabilities and expand its ability to help businesses manage and reduce cyber threats.
“Definitely, this is an important milestone, but we’re still in the journey between signing and closing,” Rappaport stated, addressing questions about the DOJ’s review outcome.
Broader Regulatory Reviews Underway
The DOJ had begun examining the acquisition in June after Bloomberg reported that regulators were assessing whether Alphabet’s purchase of Wiz might reduce market competition in the cybersecurity sector.
The department’s clearance suggests that antitrust concerns—at least in the U.S.—have been resolved for now.
However, Alphabet’s journey toward full approval is not over. The company still needs regulatory clearance in several other jurisdictions before the transaction can be finalized. These reviews are standard for large multinational mergers and often take months to complete.
A Google spokesperson emphasized the company’s continued commitment to working through these processes, saying, “We look forward to completing the review process in other jurisdictions.
The acquisition of Wiz is expected to close in 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.”
If completed as planned, the acquisition will further solidify Google Cloud’s competitive edge in the fast-growing cybersecurity market—an area of increasing importance as businesses worldwide face escalating digital threats.
Wiz, founded in 2020, has quickly gained prominence for its cloud security platform, which helps organizations detect vulnerabilities and manage risks across complex digital environments.
By combining Wiz’s innovative technology with Google Cloud’s infrastructure and global reach, Alphabet aims to position itself as a leader in providing secure, scalable cloud solutions.
The DOJ’s approval marks a major step forward in that effort, paving the way for one of the largest tech deals in recent years to move closer to completion.
