Age Requirement
You must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17-year-olds can also take the test but must meet additional requirements).

Requirements for 16 and 17-year-olds
16 and 17-year-olds can take the test if they have a completed school exit form and a superintendent/principal/designee recommendation on file. This form must be submitted to the testing center before you can take the test. You can submit the form using one of the following methods:

1. Visit a local testing center to submit your form in person. The staff will help you register for the GED test and provide guidance on scheduling the exam.
2. If you plan to take the test from home, ask your school corporation to email the exit form to mhibbard@dwd.in.gov.

Residency Requirement

Testers must be residents of Indiana for at least 30 days. To prove residency in Indiana for the GED test, you need to provide documentation that shows you have resided in Indiana for at least 30 days prior to the test date.

 Acceptable documents include:

• A valid Indiana driver’s license or state ID card with your current address
• Recent utility bills (e.g., electricity, gas, water, cable, or internet) with your name and Indiana address

• Recent pay stubs or a letter from your employer showing an Indiana address
